Best Anki Add-Ons for Language Learning

We know that learning vocabulary in a foreign language can be complicated and the hardest part is not forgetting them…

To solve this problem, spaced-repetition apps like Anki can help not only with learning words, but also remembering them for a long time. Anki is created in such a way that every time you are about to forget a word, it shows it to you again, therefore, solidifying it in your memory and bringing the word closer to being stocked in your long-term memory.

However, anyone who has used Anki before can probably admit the fact that it gets quite boring really fast. The interface is never changing, the colors a bit dull and repeating card is definitely not fun enough to keep you engaged.

So, what do we do when Anki is useful for us, but has become such a drag? We make it fun again by using add-ons! Add-ons are community-created extensions that add new features or help you customize your Anki.

This is how my Anki looked before and after adding add-ons:

Here you can find a long list of add-ons: https://ankiweb.net/shared/addons. Plus, they are really easy to add. Take any add-on that seems interesting, find its code like in the image, then open your Anki app on desktop.

In Anki, go to Tools > Add-ons > Get add-ons, then input the code of the add-on you want to add.

Wait for it to install, reopen Anki and you are done!

Some add-ons we love and recommend:

1.Ankimon (code: 1908235722 )

If you ever wanted to learn languages while playing games, Ankimon is for you. Ankimon makes reviewing flashcard easier by gamifying the process. Every review you make helps you in battle against various Pokemons.

2.Custom background image(code: 1210908941)

Say goodbye to the same old Anki background. Now you can personalize it in any way you want!

3.Pokemon reinforcement(code: 2065808296)

With Pokemon Reinforcement, we take gamifying the process one step ahead and we become a trainer that collects Pokemons. This will definitely make you want to come back to review your cards or else how are you going to catch them all?

4.Progress bar(code: 1708250053)

Ever felt like the cards were never ending? With progress bar, now you know exactly when the cards end and you are more motivated to see that bar complete.

5.REview heatmap(code: 1771074083)

It’s a lot easier to stay motivated when you see your progress. Heatmap lets you do just that as it shows you in a pleasant visual way on what days you have studied and what days you have skipped.

6.Pass Fail buttons (code: 876946123)

Finally, another add-on that can ease your review sessions is this one that removed the easy and hard buttons. For people who use Anki, you might know that there are 4 buttons for each card (again, hard, good and easy). Deciding whether you know the word well or not can take a long time and you might even misjudge a word. Therefore, by taking the decision-making load off (through having only a Pass and a Fail button) can make reviewing a lot easier.

We hope this post helped you find motivation to learn vocabulary again with Anki and that some add-ons we presented will be useful!
